BLACK MARCHThursday, March 1st 2012 to Saturday 31st March 2012
With the continuing campaigns for Internet-censoring litigation such as SOPA and PIPA, and the closure of sites such as Megaupload under allegations of ‘piracy’ and ‘conspiracy’ the time has come to take a stand against music, film and media companies’ lobbyists.
The only way is to hit them where it truly hurts.Their profit margins.
March 2012 is the end of the 1st quarter in economic reports worldwide.
Do not buy a single record. Do not download a single song, legally or illegally. Do not go to see a single film in cinemas, or download a copy, Do not buy a DVD in the stores. Do not buy a videogame. Do not buy a single book or magazine.
Wait the 4 weeks to buy them in April: see the film later, etc. Holding out for just 4 weeks, maximum, will leave a gaping hole in media and entertainment companies’ profits for the 1st quarter, an economic hit which will in turn be observed by governments worldwide as stocks and shares will blip from a large enough loss of incomes. This action can give a statement of intent:
”We will not tolerate the Media Industries’ lobbying for legistation which will censor the internet.”

So, pretty much keep doing what I was doing.
Aight.

CAN’T THIS WAIT TIL APRIL? I HAVE TO SEE THE HUNGER GAMES MIDNIGHT PREMIERE
Don’t be selfish, Hunger Games can actually wait when you consider the bigger picture.
Also this shouldn’t be hard, I don’t buy records, download songs, watch movies in cinemas, buy DVDs or videogames or books or magazines anyway. Everything comes from the internet, and you know what? If you stopped that, I wouldn’t bother any of it. To quote Logan Echolls, “When the milk stops being free, I stop drinking it.”

I can do this! I think..

I already boycott a fair few of these. Revlon and L’Oreal still test on animals, Nike uses slave labor, and WalMart treats its employees and customers like crud. Why is Harley Davidson even whining? Or Lacoste? And Ford? Like .. how are they the victims of piracy? I’m legitimately interested to know.

Erm. It’s from 9gag so I’m doubting the accuracy
No more EA, Sony, Nintendo, or Lucky Brand for me. I boycott Revlon and L’Oreal already.

I’ve never supported Nike (because of slave labour. In my country.) in the first place anyway :\

Here’s a tip for the do-it-yourself crowd:
Go to your computer’s Start menu, and either go to
“run” or just search for “cmd.”
Open it up, and type in “ping [website address],”

Once you have the IP for a website, all you really
need to do is enter it like you would
a normal URL nd hit enter/press go. Typing in
 “208.85.240.231”
should bring you to the front page of AO3,
for example, just as typing “174.121.194.34/dashboard”
should bring you straight to your Tumblr dashboard.
Since we’re obviously bracing for the worst case scenario
which would involve you not being
able to access the internet regularly, you should,
 save this list.
Tumblr can’t be shut down. It just can’t. This isn’t just a social blogging site. This is where people have made friends, found their soul mates, stopped people from killing themselves, raised awareness for certain diseases and disorders, discovered that we are not alone in certain aspects and learned that there are people who have the same interests as us outside of school or anywhere else. We express our real personalities on here. We are not the fake ones. Tumblr is a place for artists of all types, photographers, fashion lovers, multiple fandom supporters, and so much more. We are Tumblr. We are all connected in some way. We are one. We’re not just some social blogging site.

Astronomers Aim To Take First Picture of Black Hole

Wind Energy Without the Blades?

What if we could harness wind energy without the fields of enormous blade turbines that have come to be associated with modern wind farms. It would certainly help eliminate the “spinning blades of death” that many birds have to deal with, as well. Levant Power of Cambridge, MA turned to nature for an inspired alternative:

The proposed design calls for 1,203 ““stalks,” each 180-feet high with concrete bases that are between about 33- and 66-feet wide. The carbon-fiber stalks, reinforced with resin, are about a foot wide at the base tapering to about 2 inches at the top. Each stalk will contain alternating layers of electrodes and ceramic discs made from piezoelectric material, which generates a current when put under pressure. In the case of the stalks, the discs will compress as they sway in the wind, creating a charge.

Not to mention that I wouldn’t mind having one of these near my house at night … just beautiful. If this doesn’t work, then all we have to turn to is purple turbines.
